Girls' Lacrosse Player Selected All American
7/12/2010

Junior Lacrosse Captain Jess F. was recently selected as a US Lacrosse All American from the Potomac region. The Potomac region includes Northern Virginia up to Baltimore, MD. Jess was one of only fifteen players selected from both public and private schools, and one of only four Juniors on the list.

According to US Lacrosse, the player has to have "exceptional game sense and knowledge of the game of lacrosse. She is also considered one of the best players in the US." Jess scored a school record 62 goals on the season helping her team to a 4th place finish in the upper Division of the ISL, and a 6th place ranking in the State.

This award comes on the heels of being recognized as an Academic All-American as well.  Congratulations!

Jess F. Earns Academic All American Honors
7/8/2010

Junior Girls' Lacrosse captain, Jess F., was selected as an Academic All American earlier this month for her lacrosse and academic achievements.  It comes as no surprise to those who coach her that she works just as hard for her teachers in the classroom as she does on the court and the field.

US Lacrosse states that an Academic All American " is a player who exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills and excellent sportsmanship on the field while also representing high standards of academic achievement in the classroom."

Jess was a great leader and really helped to make those around her better.  Moving into the upper division of the ISL, this team had a lot of success and finished in fourth place.  The Huskies also made it to the State Tournament ranked #6 in Virginia.  Congratulations Jess!

Huskies' Baseball Win MAC Tournament
5/13/2010
Flint Hill defeated MAC rival The Potomac School 5-4 to win the MAC Baseball Tournament.  Flint Hill had to rebound from Tuesday's tough 1 run loss to Paul VI in the Virginia State Tournament to face a determined Potomac team.  The Huskies would fall behind, but then in the bottom of each inning would earn runs to tie it back up, eventually taking the lead.  Senior Jared L. threw 5 and one third innings, and Junior Rylan G. closed out the final one and two thirds innings.  Solid defensive play and great at bats for the Huskies helped them win this game.  It's the third time the Huskies beat Potomac this season, and each game was close.  This is the 4th Championship for the Husky Baseball team.  Congratulations!

The Flint Hill Boys' Lacrosse team gave their Mothers the perfect Mother's Day present.  They beat Potomac 4-3 to win the MAC Tournament.  The Huskies were the #1 seed going into the tournament, having won the regular season title.  A very low scoring game, Potomac was up 1-0 at halftime.  Senior Tim P. scored the equalizer in the beginning of the third quarter.  Junior Tyler L. scored shortly after for the Huskies first lead of the game.  Senior Danny E. had a heads up play putting a ground ball off a rebound into the back of the net to put up the Huskies 3-1 going into the fourth quarter.  Senior James S. put his mark on his final game with a goal to put the Huskies up 4-1.  The Panthers would not go away.  They brought the game to 4-3 with 3 minutes to go.  With great defenseive effort and behind the stellar play of Senior keeper, Chris N., they held them off for the big win.
Chris had 15 saves for the game, and will play for his Coach's alma mater next year at Denison.

This past weekend the team headed to Norfolk to face Richmond Collegiate in the semi-final game.  They won 3-0 with game scores 25-14, 25-10 and 25-15.  Juniors Marilyn P. had 11 kills, Tori J. had 6 kills and 11 assists, and Taylor N. had 18 assists.  The team earned a spot in the finals against Liberty Christian Academy.  In the Championship match they defeated LCA 3-1, 25-14, 25-16, 20-25, and 25-18.  It is the second consecutive title for the program and its first ever Trifecta.  Congratulations to Coach Anderson and her team!!

Football Wins MAC
11/15/2009
Flint Hill's football team beat St. James this past weekend 35-21.  This win gave the Huskies sole possession of the MAC Football Title with an undefeated league record.  This is the fourth consecutive title for the football program.  Head Coach Michael Wright is very proud of the hard work his team put in this season, especially since they had no returning starters from last year's State Tournament second place team.  Junior running back, Alex C., was selected as the MAC Football Player of the week with 23 carries for 271 yards and three touchdowns.  Go Huskies!
Football Looks To Earn MAC Title Outright
11/12/2009
The Husky football team has been working hard all season long under head coach Michael Wright.  With no returning starters from last year's team that finished second in the state, not many people believed they would be where they are.  On top of the MAC.  With a huge 21-13 win last weekend over MAC opponent, the Potomac School, the Huskies have secured at least a share of the MAC title with Maret.  The Huskies travel to play MAC rival St. John's at 1pm on Saturday.  If Flint Hill wins the game they are the MAC Champions for the 5th straight year.  Go Huskies!

Volleyball Wins City Championship
11/3/2009
In a match that is unique to volleyball, the Independent School League (ISL) regular season champion plays the winner of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) in the City Championship game.  This game between Flint Hill and Good Counsel was hosted at Maret last night and showcased some of the best high school volleyball in the area.  Good Counsel came out on fire seeking to avenge an earlier loss this season to the Huskies.  In front of a packed house, they took the first game 25-15.  The Huskies regrouped and won the next game 25-23.  Even at one game a piece, they went back and forth in the pivotal third game.  The Huskies came out on top 25-21, with many ties and lead changes.  In the fourth game the Huskies gained the lead and never gave it up winning the final game 25-19.  The match had really long rallies and just when you thought the point was over, back over the net came the ball.  It was very exciting to watch.  Some great serving and hitting along with some great defensive plays by both teams made this a very fun match to watch.  The Huskies improve to 26-2 on the year as they head into the ISL tournament.  Junior Jess F. led a solid defensive effort with 12 digs, flying all over the court.  Marolyn P. had 18 kills, while Tori J. tallied 16 kills and 24 assists.  It was a total team effort as the Huskies captured it's first City Championship.  Go Huskies!
JV Volleyball Wins Tournament
11/2/2009
Georgetown Day School hosted the ISL JV Volleyball tournament this past Friday and Saturday.  All of the teams in the ISL participate.  The Huskies played four games on Friday and won each of them 2-0.  The Flint Hill team then advanced to the semi-final game on Saturday morning where they faced Maret.  The Huskies were ready for the Maret Frogs and beat them 2-0.  In the finals the Huskies faced Madeira and won 2-0 to win their second straight ISL JV Volleyball Tournament Title.  Sophomores Maggie J. and Elise M. both earned All Tournament Team selections.  Congratulations!
Girls' Soccer Shares ISL AA Championship Title
10/28/2009
The Girls' soccer team has accomplished an impressive feat this fall.  Having just moved up to the AA Division of the ISL this season, after winning the A Division last year, they earn the title of Co-Champions of the AA Division regular season title.  Typically teams that move up into the harder division just want to make sure they are competitive and stay in the upper division for the next season.  To be able to come up to the tougher AA Division and tie for the title this year is amazing.  While all teams have to deal with injuries, the Huskie's soccer team lost it's starting senior goalie.  A Sophomore that had not played the position before, stepped right in.  What a memorable season for Head Coach Nicole Barber.  Congratulations, and we wish them Good Luck in the ISL Tournament!  Go out and support your Huskies!!
Volleyball Wins ISL Championship
10/28/2009

Flint Hill went undefeated in the ISL this season.  With a 3-0 win over the Saints last night, they clinched the ISL AA Volleyball Championship.  In an ISL and WCAC tradition, Flint Hill will face the winner of the WCAC on Monday for the City Championship.  The ISL tournament is also next week, followed by the Virginia State Tournament.  The Huskies are currently ranked #1 in the State Poll.  This team recently helped Head Coach Carroll Anderson win her 150th victory.  Come on out and support the Huskies!

Success At Homecoming
10/27/2009

The Flint Hill Huskies definitely did not allow the rain to dampen their desire to win—two teams went into double overtime, with one team earning a tie and the other winning in dramatic fashion. The Huskies had two wins and two ties for the day.

The competitions began with the Varsity Volleyball team looking to defeat another ISL opponent, Georgetown Visitation. In an early morning game, the Huskies defeated Visitation 25-8, 25-9, and 25-15. The Huskies can win the ISL title with a win on Tuesday. This game marked Coach Carol Anderson’s 150th win with the Volleyball program.

The Girls’ Soccer team took to the field next, hosting Wilson High School. In a very evenly matched game, Wilson squeaked a goal in shortly before halftime. The Huskies came out on fire in the second half, creating a lot of scoring opportunities, and Marlo S. put a beautiful goal in the back of the net with 12 minutes to play. In the final two minutes, a few game winners just missed the goal, and Gracie C. made some great saves in goal for the Huskies. Husky defenders Megan H., Katrina N. and Hanna D. played great from start to finish. With some great plays by the goalkeepers, neither team would score again, with a final score of 1-1 in double overtime.

The Boys’ Soccer Team hosted MAC rival St. Andrews. It was the Huskies who got off to a great start with Freshman Gabby B. forcing the St. Andrew’s keeper to make a save after 30 seconds. Once the game settled, there were few chances in the first half due to wet conditions and good defending by both teams. Flint Hill had more possessions in the second half and created a number of good goal-scoring chances. The Huskies also played their best defensive game of the year, with the back four and keeper making no mistakes and keeping St. Andrews at bay. With two minutes to go, a sweeping move down the field allowed Senior Joe B. to spin his marker and lay a perfect pass to fellow Senior Martin B. His shot skipped narrowly past the post. After giving their all, Flint Hill recorded its first shut-out of the season to finish the game with a 0-0 tie.

When the rain really started, the football game began! In front of a dedicated crowd, the team made some great plays—on both sides of the ball—throughout the game. The Huskies scored first on a run by Alex C. in the second quarter to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead at halftime. The defense really played well in this game, especially Travis W., who led the team with 20 solo tackles and 10 assisted tackles. The defensive unit held Maret four times on the goal line. Alex C. had 18 rushes for 85 yards, but the most exciting was the touchdown in double overtime to win the game, 13-7.

Head Volleyball Coach Wins Number 150
10/26/2009
Head Coach Carrol Anderson has been coaching the Flint Hill Volleyball program for the past seven years.  This past Saturday, on Homecoming, her team won again and for Head Coach Anderson it was win #150.  Anderson's team's goals for this season are to repeat what they did last year, winning the ISL League Title and the Virginia State Title.  The Huskies host their final ISL team on Tuesday at home, and with a win will clinch the ISL Title.  Currently ranked #1 in the State the Huskies are excited for the opportunity for another Virginia State Title.  GO Huskies!
Girls' Soccer On The Move
10/15/2009
The Flint Hill Girls' Soccer team moved up to the AA Division in the ISL after winning the A Division last fall.  Being in the AA Division has suited this team well as they just keep on winning.  Coach Barber's team has had big wins over perennial powerhouses National Cathedral School and Sidwell Friends.  One of the fastest players on the field, senior Kim T., has been leading the team this season in scoring along with freshman phenom Marlo S.  These two players combined with great leadership from captains Alie F., Meghan H. and Calla M., and with an overall hardworking team, have certainly made for a memorable season!

The Flint Hill Volleyball team traveled to Richmond to play in the two-day Richmond Showcase Tournament this past weekend.  They were hoping to see Chantilly in the finals having lost to them in this season's opening match. They did not overlook any team in this stacked tournament on their way to taking the first place trophy.
