At the core of the academic program of the Upper School is a caring faculty that is committed and responsive to individual needs while maintaining high expectations for all students. An average class size of 14 students and a daily schedule that includes a period for extra help give faculty the opportunity to provide personal attention. Employing a variety of strategies to support and challenge a wide array of learning styles in the classroom, our talented faculty seeks to help each student to realize his or her academic potential.
Our dynamic curriculum ensures that students receive exposure to a broad range of disciplines as well as the freedom to pursue particular areas of interest and talent. Our offerings supply the rigor and the scope necessary to provide our students with the preparation for, and access to, the most selective colleges. To supplement our comprehensive college preparatory curriculum and stretch even our most capable students, we offer 24 Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Flint Hill believes that a substantial component of the education of teenagers occurs outside of the classroom. Our commitment to experiential education in the Upper School begins with the team building and personal connections central to our Freshman Field Studies program and culminates with the vocational internship of our Senior Projects.
Taking advantage of our wonderful facilities, tremendous faculty, and broad curriculum provides the framework and the opportunity for FHS students – be they scholars, athletes, or artists – to cultivate their ability and leadership. Students take ownership for creating the positive climate and commitment to community life that are essential to the Flint Hill experience by modeling our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, and Compassion. Whether engaging in study groups in the Commons, facilitating discussions in advisory, making presentations in Town Meeting, or cheering each other on at athletic events, concerts, and Latin competitions, our students demonstrate the pride, energy, drive, and passion that are at the heart of the Upper School. |
