 Audrey Dotson Makes Impact Early
Audrey Dotson ’11 was a team-captain and an integral part of the Girls’ Basketball program last season, and after a great career at Flint Hill she committed to Bucknell University to play Basketball. Dotson is only four games into her Freshman year, and in a close game versus Buffalo she played 23 minutes, scored 10 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Bison. Dotson looks to keep those numbers up as the season progresses.

 Christopher Newport: 2011 National Runner-UpOn Sunday, November 20, in St. Louis, Missouri, Flint Hill School alumni Christie Fellows and Terran Bargeron led their Christopher Newport University (CNU) volleyball team to the National NCAA Division finals. This was CNU’s first-ever national championship appearance. Despite CNU’s strong showing, they were defeated by Wittenberg University with a 3-0 loss. CNU wraps up the season with a 38-5 overall record, matching last season’s program record of wins.
Christie Fellows, a 2009 graduate of Flint Hill School and one of Vienna’s own, led her team at Flint Hill to a State Championship in 2008. In Christie’s Senior year, she was selected the 2008 Virginia State Player of the Year and First Team All-Met. While Terran Bargeron, a graduate of Flint Hill in 2011, was a member of Flint Hill’s State Championship Team that finished Terran’s Senior season with a perfect 33-0 record.

 | Football Class of 2009 Making Their Mark in College In their Senior season, Jovan Smith '09, Arlandis Harvey '09 and Jimmy Speros '09 led Flint Hill to the VISAA State Championship game. In 2011 the trio enter their third season at rival Virginia college, Smith and Speros play running-back and offensive line, respectively at the University of Richmond, while Harvey plays wide receiver for James Madison University. Speros recently started a game versus VMI, while Harvey has been receiving significant playing time for the Dukes. Unfortunately Jovan Smith is sitting out this season with an injury, but at the end of last season he was an integral part of the Spider offense, and will most certainly come back strong next year. In his first game in college at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, KC came out blazing! The lefty hit four 3-pointers, finishing with 15 points in 33 minutes. The freshman guard, starting in his first college game, really impressed the home crowd as he hit UAB's first basket- a three-pointer as he was fouled, he then stepped to the free-throw line to convert the four point play on the Blazers' first possession of the game. And she has started her college career at the University of Virginia without missing a beat. In her debut start for the Cavaliers, Tori recorded 8 kills, 12 digs and 3 aces to help UVA overcome USC-Upstate.  Shane Savage Finding Success On and Off the Field On Saturday, October 8, Shane Savage ’08 had a huge game against Harvard with eight receptions for 152 yards and two touchdowns. The amazing performance by the former Husky makes him the scoring leader in the Ivy League and on top of that he was nominated for the Ivy Player of the Week. But his most recent big news came off the field, when Shane was offered a position at Google Headquarters in California upon graduation.  Stertzer Leads Comeback for #4-ranked TerpsAs a junior at Flint Hill John Stertzer '09 had an outstanding year, scoring 43 goals and tallying 19 assists. Although he is only two games into his junior season as a standout midfielder for the University of Maryland soccer team, Stertzer is on pace to duplicate that junior-year magic. The 2007 Washington Post All-Met player of the year has scored 3 goals in the first 2 games this year. First netting one goal in a 3-0 win over St. Johns in Maryland's season opener. And on Monday night when his #4 Terps were down 1-0 to #17 West Virginia, Stertzer scored the equalizer on a penalty kick in the 54th minute, then just 7 minutes later, Stertzer buried the go-ahead goal on a beautiful finish. Maryland later added a goal to secure the lead, and hold out for a 3-1 victory.  Volleyball Class of 2011 Set for Freshmen Year
The Flint Hill Volleyball team from 2010 finished with a spectacular 33-0 record, and now the seniors that lead Flint Hill to its third straight VISAA State Championship are set to begin their college athletic careers. Four members of them team are going to play Volleyball in college, Tori Janowski at UVA, Terran Bargeron at Christopher Newport, Taylor Nelson at Rutgers University and Marilyn Peizer at Fairfield University. While two other key contributors to the 2010 Volleyball program will play other sports at the D1 level, Audrey Dotson will play Basketball at Bucknell and Jess Fellows will play lacrosse at Navy. The Flint Hill community wishes the Class of 2011 the best of luck as they start out their freshmen year!

 | Nicolas Abrigo ('08) Leads William & Mary To CAA Championship Nicolas Abrigo ('08) led his William and Mary Mens' Soccer team to a CAA Championship title with a 4-0 win over Hofstra. Abrigo scored a hat trick in the finals and was named the Most Outstanding Player in the Tournament.
Nicolas is also the reason the Tribe were in the finals. With 24 seconds to go in a double overtime game with Delaware, he scored the winning goal. This is the first CAA Championship for the team since 2000. This also qualifies them for the NCAA Mens' Soccer Tournament.  | John Stertzer ('09) & University of Maryland Mens' Soccer Team Win ACC John Stertzer ('08) and his Terps' Soccer team beat UNC 1-0 to win the ACC Championship. Maryland scored on a penalty kick early on in the game and held on to win the title.
This is their second title in the past three years. They advance to the NCAA tournament.

 | It Is Never Too Late Ben Sweet ('06) finally got up the courage during his Junior year to try out for the Boys' Lacrosse team. By his senior year with the help and support of his coaches and teammates, Sweet was an All-MAC player. As he headed off to Acadia University, he took with him what he learned here at FHS.
Although he was a little intimidated at first by the other players who had more experience than he had, Coach Rice had helped prepare him for this next step. At the end of his Freshman year he was nominated as Rookie of the Year and Defenseman of the year. He would go on to be nominated as Defenseman of the Year for each of his four years and earn First Team All Star Defenseman for four years. Ben was elected captain his Sophomore year, a position he would hold until he graduated. After his senior season he was nominated for the Senior of The Year. Ben attributes all of his success to his coaches while here at FHS, especially Coach Adam Rice. Coach Rice gave Sweet the confidence he needed, and showed that with hard work and dedication anything is possible. |

 Julia Fortkort ('09) & Elaine Bigelow ('06)- Rugby PlayersJulia Fortkort and Elaine Bigelow were both selected from their college rugby teams to compete in the U23 National All Star Championships in Santa Barbara this past June. Julia played for the West team and Elaine played for the Mid-Atlantic squad.
Julia is currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin and earned Rookie of the Year honors this past season. Elaine just graduated from Princeton and was captain of her Rugby team. These two athletes were teammates on the Girls' Varsity Basketball team while at Flint Hill.

 Shane Savage & Emani FentonEmani Fenton and Shane Savage are playing well for the Big Red Football team. In 2009 Shane Savage had 42 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns. He has accumulated 170 yards in just three games this season.
Emani Fenton, a cornerback for the Big Red, had 36 tackles, broke up 9 passes and returned a blocked kick for a touchdown last year.

He helped lead his Elizabethtown College men's track and field team to a third place finish at the MAC Championships.  | Bernard ('06) and Robert ('07) Innocent Bernard and Robert helped Widener University to win their first Men's Indoor Mid Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championship since 2002. Bernard and Robert ran the 4 X 200 meter relay along with teammates Nicholas Dolhancryk and Sean McCarthy and won in a time of 1:33.18. Robert earned a second place finish in the 200-meter dash in 23.51 and he crossed the finish line in 6.70 seconds to win third in the 55-meter dash. Congratulations! |

 | Brian Armstrong '08 Brian Armstrong Breaks Xavier Track Record Brian, a Sophomore at Xavier, ran a 7.18 60-meter dash at the Oiler Invitational, breaking a Xavier University school record. He also broke his own record in the indoor 200-meter dash when he ran a 23.22 in the finals. At the Golden Flash Invitational, hosted by Kent State University, the Xavier track and field team placed well in a very competitive field. Brian ran a personal-best and school record 200-meter dash, with a time of 23.03. |

 | Nicolas Abrigo '08 Nicolas is a Sophomore Men's Soccer player at William & Mary. Nicolas was a standout member of the Tribe last year where he earned the Rookie of the Year honors. Nicolas played in every game this fall. The team clinched a CAA Tournament bid with an incredible double overtime victory over Northeastern. |

 Robert Innocent '07Widener University Track and Field continued its indoor season at the Haverford Holiday Meet in Haverford, PA in December. Junior Robert Innocent (Fairfax, VA) won twice, grabbing the 55-meter dash in a meet-record 6.59 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.07 seconds. Each time enabled him to qualify for the ECAC Championships.

 | Ashley Bazzarone ’09 Ashley was part of the eighth-ranked Women's Soccer team at Brigham Young University (BYU), in 2009. After a successful regular season, the Cougars went on to play in the NCAA tournament making it to the second round. |

 Doug Howard '09Defying the odds and weeks of grueling walk-on tryouts, Doug made the William and Mary basketball team at point guard. Doug has seen minutes in several games. The team is ranked 35th in the nation upsetting University of Maryland and several other major programs this season.

 | K. C. Gordon '06 K.C., a senior captain for the Navy Women's Basketball Team, led her team to the semifinal game in the Patriot League Women's Basketball Tournament. The Mids lost to American and finished their season with a winning record. K.C. a great shooter, passer, and rebounder, finished her career at Navy with some impressive stats. She atarted every game in her Junior and Senior year and was on of the teams top scorers and had one of the top free throw percentages on the team. Congratulations on a great senior season! |

 Jennifer Lavet '08Jennifer Lavet played on the Tufts Women’s Tennis team last year playing #4 singles. The team finished #12 in the NCAA Division III rankings. Jennifer has transferred to Georgetown University and is now a member of the Georgetown Women’s Tennis team. |

 | Chelsea Overholt '09 Chelsea was a big contributor to the Adelphi Volleyball team in the 2009 fall season. The team earned its third straight NCAA Division II bid.

 | John Stertzer ’09 John made a great start as a freshman at the University of Maryland (UMD) in the fall of 2009. As a starter for the Men's Soccer team, he scored the winning goal with 50 seconds left in the game to help his team beat ACC rival Virginia Tech. UMD made it to the NCAA quarterfinals where they fell to the University of Virginia, the eventual National Champions. |

 | Howard Turk '08 Howard is a Sophomore on the University of Virginia Mens' Soccer Team, which had an incredible season in the fall of 2009. The Cavaliers won the National Championship with a win in penalty kicks over Akron. Congratulations! |

 Shane Savage '08
As a red shirt freshman, Shane Savage was the second leading receiver for the Cornell Big Red finishing 9th in the conference in receptions. He is one of only two underclassmen to be ranked in the top ten in receptions.
