6 Questions with Director of Development Leslie Hutchens

Leslie Hutchens
Flint Hill’s 2018-2019 school year is officially underway, and there are several new faces among our faculty and staff. Throughout the month of September, we will use the headmaster’s section of the Weekly Newsletter to get to know some of them.
Where are you originally from and what is your background?
My family and I have been in the Northern Virginia area for 14 years now. I have been fortunate to have worked in the Development Offices at other schools in the area (Sidwell Friends and then The Madeira School) before coming to Flint Hill.
What attracted you to your position at Flint Hill?
The strong community here at Flint Hill makes it stand out. In my short time here I have heard countless times how faculty and staff members have had an impact on students helping them to achieve success.
What are your initial impressions of Flint Hill and its community?
This community feels like a family. Everyone is supportive of each other in their journey to learn and grow. The School does not just have a vision and a mission — it lives by these principles to take meaningful risks, be yourself and make a difference.
What are you hoping to accomplish during your first year?
This year I want to get to know our parents and hear about their children’s experiences here at Flint Hill.
What are you most looking forward to?
Being able to look back on this year and saying “we made a difference” and I was a part of the effort.
Now for the fun part — what sorts of hobbies or fun activities do you enjoy outside of work?
I love to play outside! You can find me running, cycling, hiking and camping with my family.
