Dear Middle School Families,
It was great to have everyone back in the building this week to start the new year. As I continue to revisit and update my parenting and professional resolutions for 2019, I wanted to share some relevant gender-specific articles, with tips and insights, for navigating life with your early adolescent.

Dressing for Cold Weather and Preparing for Cancellations
As the temperatures drop, please be aware that we will generally have students go outside for break and recess, unless the real-feel temperature drops below 20 degrees. While early adolescents believe that a sweatshirt is all they need to fend off the elements, please send your child to school with appropriate clothing (jacket, hat, gloves).
As noted in previous newsletters, Flint Hill’s Inclement Weather Policy provides details on how we make decisions and notify the community about delays and school closures. With the potential for storms and extended closures this winter, we will assign work to maintain academic momentum and skill development. Our Snow Day Work Policy — which goes into effect on the next snow day of the season — establishes guidelines for teachers.
