I appreciate everyone’s flexibility as we turned to virtual learning this week. Though we will be in virtual learning for only a short time, please reinforce some of the following habits with your students to make sure that they get the most out of their classes while we are virtual.
- Make sure the student is at a comfortable but seated location to attend class. Students should not be in bed because it makes them drowsy and less attentive.
- Encourage the student to put their phone in a different room while they are in class. Having the phone on the desk while they are learning encourages them to task switch and lose focus.
- In between classes, reinforce the idea that they should take a break from the computer screen. Encourage them to go outside for a bit or do something physical if possible. Even the five minute walk between classes yields benefits for students, so any way that they can mimic that activity is helpful for them.
- Encourage them to use office hours if they have questions or want extra help with any of the lessons.
