Message From Division Director
I know that you have received many communications from Flint Hill over the past few days, including my email yesterday regarding the virtual learning days on Thursday and Friday of this week. I appreciate everyone’s diligence with reviewing that information, particularly as we have had to make changes based upon dynamic conditions with the weather and the growth of the Omicron variant.
I will keep my message rather brief because we have sent so many other messages this week. We are committed to doing what we can to maintain in-person schooling, and we will continue to review recommendations and procedures that we think maximize our chance “to stay and to play.” I was disappointed that the situation forced us to go virtual in late December and early January, but please know that many people have been working diligently over the winter break to take steps to get the students back on campus as soon as we can. Please continue to read any updates that we send out, make sure your student stays in touch with their teacher/advisor, and keep building the healthy habits in our student population that minimizes spread and maximizes our ability to hold in-person schooling. See you Saturday at the testing!

Director of the Upper School

Virtual Learning on Thursday and Friday
Please refer to the email sent out Tuesday, at 3:30 p.m., for all of the information about Thursday and Friday’s virtual learning schedule at the Upper School. As a reminder, we are utilizing the same regular daily schedule as well as the same classroom Google Meet links that we had in December.
Financial Aid Deadline Approaching
The financial aid application deadline is Monday, January 10, for families planning to apply for financial aid for the 2022-23 school year. Flint Hill’s financial aid application is available on the Financial Aid for Student Tuition (FAST) website. Families who complete the application process by January 10 will receive a notification of their financial aid award on Thursday, January 27, when re-enrollment contracts are issued to current families.
New Dress Guidelines Start When In-Person Schooling Returns
As I mentioned previously, I have been working with the Student Council Association regarding changes to the dress guidelines for the remainder of the year. I have accepted their recommendations and revised the dress guidelines for the remainder of the year. Please review these new guidelines with your student.
In January or February, we are hoping to release the permanent dress guidelines that will come into effect in August of 2022. We have not finished that work with our student government yet, but we look forward to sending out that information as soon as it is completed.

Parent Resources
The Parents Council of Washington (PCW) is pleased to host online viewing of “The Upstanders” from January 10 through January 13, 2022. This iNDIEFLIX original documentary about resilience and the power of connection to end bullying addresses the multiple facets of cyber-bullying including bully, victim, bystander, and family member. Remote learning and socializing due to COVID-19 has increased screen time for children while also significantly increasing circumstances of cyber-bullying. This documentary provides bystanders with the tools and confidence to "change the narrative" to eradicate cyber-bullying. Register here to receive the link to view “The Upstanders” documentary and access its At-Home Discussion Guide and other online resources. All PCW member school parents, administrators, faculty, and staff are invited. Students are invited to view the documentary with their parents due to the fact that suicide is discussed.

Happy New Year! 2022…Wow!
When we enrolled at Flint Hill, in the fall of 2009, we were given the year 2022. Unsal family ’22, Necati Unsal ’22, Sibel Unsal P’22. For 13 years, every time our names were mentioned it was accompanied by 22. At the time, 2022 seemed like a lifetime away, a distant date that I really never thought about.
