MESSAGE FROM PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT – September 7, 2022

Dear Parents,

The school year is in full swing, and this can be both exciting and stressful! The best years we’ve had at Flint Hill are the ones when we connect with the community – fellow parents, teachers, students and beyond. September presents several opportunities to connect and engage with the Flint Hill community – here are three opportunities you won’t want to miss:

  • Friday, September 9 — Show Your Husky Pride for Flint Hill Athletics

Details are on the Athletics calendar, or if you’re like me and prefer social media, follow Flint Hill Athletics on Twitter or Instagram. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to come together as a community, and there is something for everyone. The theme for the game is “White Out,” so join the students in wearing all white! We love to bring our sheepadoodle, Tripp, who wears a Husky Pride bandana to show school spirit! Concessions are available at The Den. Please stop by and say hello as I’ll be working a shift at The Den — from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. — my first ever in all the years we’ve been at Flint Hill. I’ll report back on my experience next week. Stay tuned! You can sign-up for a volunteer shift by adding your name to The Den Sign-Up Form

  • Monday, September 12 — Parent Morning Mixer

Join us for the first mixer on Monday, September 12, 8:15-9:15 a.m., on The John M. Thomas Terrace at the Peterson Middle School. The Parent Mixers are new this year. We're organizing some informal, casual time for JK-12 parents to get together and visit with other parents on campus after morning drop-off. We'll have a few staff members attend as well who can help facilitate introductions. There's no formal programming, just a chance to meet people and visit. The Parent Mixers will rotate between locations at the Upper, Middle and Lower Schools; parents from all divisions are welcome to attend regardless of the location. There will be information in the newsletter preceding each mixer. I plan to join until 9 a.m. and hope to see you there.

  • Thursday, September 29 — Pickleball Social

New this year for JK-12 parents! Join us for the Parents’ Association Pickleball Social at the Country Club of Fairfax. All skill levels are welcome. Many of us are beginners. Pickleball, often described as a combination of tennis, ping-pong and badminton, grew nearly 40 percent between 2019 and 2021, making it America's fastest-growing sport. Whether you have played pickleball or not, this is a wonderful opportunity to meet other families and enjoy some friendly competition. The event is free, but we do ask that you register in advance. Registration is limited to the first 30 registrants, so grab your spot! Questions? Contact Advancement Officer Olivia Landrum ’11

As always, please reach out if you have questions or suggestions. We’re eager to engage with you.

Warmly,
KayAnn Schoeneman P ’28
