Fourth Grade Teacher

I love giving students the opportunity to look at topics from a fresh perspective and then allowing them to choose what paths to take as they explore those topics.

No days in the Lower School are ever the same! It's exciting to be part of a class that is driven by curiosity and eagerness to learn. If I had to choose my favorite part of the day, I would say the time during a reading session when you see all the students engrossed in a book, developing a skill that will bring them reward and enjoyment for the rest of their lives.

There are a lot of great lessons in fourth grade, but I always enjoy teaching the Chesapeake Bay. The wonder and awe of the students when we go on a field trip and view the majesty of a well-preserved wetland is inspiring. This year, we went to The Smithsonian Research Center in Edgewater, Maryland, for the first time and it was amazing to see the students naturally drop into the role of curious scientist exploring the world around them.

If my students could take away one thing from their time with me, it would be to keep questioning. Asking why and how, using what they know to figure out what they don't know.

If I had to choose my favorite part of the day, I would say the time during a reading session when you see all the students engrossed in a book, developing a skill that will bring them reward and enjoyment for the rest of their lives.
