Clay Camp: Mud n’ Fire

Join the fun this summer at Flint Hill’s Clay studio! Get fired up to expand your imaginations and explore the exciting world of clay. Whether working with sculpture, hand building, or wheel-thrown pottery, students learn in a supportive and small class setting with plenty of individual instruction and inspiration from one another as well as our teaching artists. Clay Camp is designed for all skill levels to develop your technical ability with clay while finding your unique voice as a maker. Each camper will create a body of work they can both use and admire for many years to come. Clay campers may participate in an outdoor Raku firing that is sure to ignite and delight your ceramic surfaces. We will host an exhibition with an opening reception on our last day of camp.

Robotics Exploration

Your child can spend a week exploring the fascinating world of robotics! Students will learn to design, build and program robots. Whether students are new to robotics or have years of experience, they will find robotics to be the most challenging fun they have ever had! Groups will be assigned based on grade level and ability.

Sustainable Arts & Crafts

Join us and learn to play the largest cooperative online computer game, League of Legends. League of Legends is a Massive Multiplayer Online game. Teams of five players work together to achieve goals and defeat an opposing alliance. Each member of the team has a distinct role that takes timing and situation awareness to master. Players learn to cooperate as a team and make decisive decisions under pressure. This game helps develop communication skills and quicker reaction times. This camp is a great way for kids to make like-minded friends and gain confidence as they master a skill.

Minecraft

Take your Minecraft play to the next level. All levels of players will learn something new as they play alongside like-minded campers. Basic skills will be reinforced and intermediate and advanced skills will be taught as campers learn to use command blocks, the command line, how to create their own skins, and even make their own mods. Each camper will need a Minecraft account prior to the start of camp.

HS Writing Seminar (AM)

Students will demystify the process of crafting an essay in this one week intensive writing seminar. They will (re)learn the fundamentals of: preparing to write, developing a thesis statement, presenting supporting evidence, performing analysis, and learning the importance of revisions. Students will also learn how to seamlessly incorporate quotations and citations through the use of transitions. At the end of the week, students will leave with a concrete process that they can take with them throughout the rest of their high school career and beyond.

Algebra 2 Prep (AM)

Math Modeling & Competition Boot Camp

Are you interested in taking your love of math to the next level? Do you enjoy competition and open-ended problems with complex solutions? Then this camp is for you! Campers will learn the basic principles of mathematical modeling, tackle competition-level problems in teams, and build their repertoire of creative thinking and problem-solving skills. While the camp will be focused on preparation to participate in future competitions (such as the HiMCM and M3), participants will leave with a wealth of knowledge, strategies, and skills that will benefit them in all aspects of their education (and have some fun, too)! Campers must have experience with Algebra 1 or up. Prior experience with programming suggested, but not required

Data Science

In Part 1 of a 2 Part Camp, Students will learn about the Data Science field and data science profession through a framework called the Data Science Life Cycle. The content and associated modules will be instructed through this model. Students will learn about the Data Science Life Cycle competencies by completing real-world projects through a sequence of modules (1 module per step in the cycle). These projects will entail mastering skills such programming in Python or R, statistical analysis and mathematical modeling. Students who wish to continue this course can join Part 2, Machine Learning.

In Part 2 of the Data Science and Machine Learning Camp, students will deep dive into the topic of machine learning which is a special kind of mathematical modeling whereby machines (computers) learn from data to make predictions or decisions. Students will learn about and discuss Data Ethics which refers to understanding how collecting, generating, analyzing and disseminating data may have the potential to adversely impact people and society. Students do not have to take Part 1 (Data Science) to participate in this camp.
