The goals of this group will be 1) provide accompaniment for whole school concerts, 2) refine musicianship needed for fifth grade band, orchestra, percussion and choir ensembles and 3) learn about the ukulele's cultural history. 4) Learn single string tablature that might help them in orchestra in 5th grade.

Students will be urged to attend all sessions and learn accountability skills around taking care of and transporting their instruments.

Builders Club - Grades K-2; $150

Students will have the chance to explore a predetermined rotation of two innovative tools and/or toys each week! Students will engage in a mini-lesson to review expectations and directions for the particular material we are exploring that week before exploring and building with the given materials in conjunction with that week's theme!

Mixed Media Exploration - Grades K - 3; $150

Explore painting, weaving, collage, printmaking and more throughout the 6 week session. Each week we dabble in a different media and encourage students to bring their imagination and creativity. From Marvel to the Peanuts, Garfield, and Calvin & Hobes, generations have grown to love the storytelling and artistry of comics. Join Ms. DeNure and Ms. Lauren to learn about various historical comics, and learn the process of creating your own story and bringing it to life on the page.

Little Huskies Science Lab - Grades 1 & 2; $150

Do you like to make things bubble and swirl? Make a cloud in a jar, and quicksand, or grow rainbows? How about making dry erase snowflakes float? Then this is the club for you. Join Ms. Hoff for this experimental and exciting weekly science club!

Newspaper Club - Grades 4 - 6; $150

Students will work together to develop a weekly newsletter that they will create and distribute digitally to members of the Lower School. The newsletter may include polls, cartoon strips, updates and announcements, modern issues, interviews, and other student ideas. This is a great opportunity for students to work on their people skills while conversing and interviewing students and adults in the building!

Learn chess with Magnus Academy (formerly Silver Knights), world champion Magnus Carlsen’s academy!  We’ve taught 100,000 children to play including state & national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn a new skill and have FUN. Class time is divided between lessons and practice games.  Lessons range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies.

Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments (in-person and online) outside of club time.  This in-person club includes free online extras including weekly practice tournaments and an event with world champion Magnus Carlsen or Judit Polgar, the best female chess player of all time.  All chess supplies provided. Students will explore civic education as they learn about our legal proceedings, courtroom procedures, and professions within the field. Students will participate in an immersive learning experience as they assume roles in a courtroom as they take a well-known fairytale character to trial. Not only will students increase their understanding of the rights and obligations of citizens in society, but they will also develop better communication, leadership, and collaborative skills as they work with others to make their case in this fun learning environment.

Dance Club - Grades 1-3; $150

This dance club with a foundation in ballet will include an introduction to vocabulary, positions, steps and movement sequences through floor work, standing and locomotive exercises. Along with approaching technique, students will focus on their movement quality, musicality, and expression and develop a sense of spatial awareness, stage direction and patterns. Students will have the opportunity to learn, explore and appreciate how dance can be a beautiful fusion of the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of themselves.

Students will wear their Flint Hill uniform for this class with socks or bare feet.

Mixed Media Exploration - Grades 4-6; $150

Explore painting, weaving, collage, printmaking and more throughout the 6 week session. Each week we dabble in a different media and encourage students to bring their imagination and creativity. Grades 5 & 6 Play; No Charge

Registration is now full. Please email James Venhaus to join the waitlist.

Rehearsals will be held on Wednesdays from 3:00 - 5:00 in the Olson Theater starting on January 4. Additional rehearsals will be held on Monday, March 6, and Tuesday, March 7 in preparation for the performance at 4:30 p.m. on March 8. Registration is limited to 24 participants and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Although we can work around some schedule conflicts, your child’s availability may be a factor in the type of role that they receive. We can not work around any conflicts during dress and tech rehearsals on March 6 and 7.

Flint Hill will be working with Acting For Young People to provide a guest artist to direct this production with support from James Venhaus, Director of Fine Arts. Once we have a list of registrants, we will select a play that best fits the group we have.

Like our after school theater productions in Middle and Upper Schools, there is no charge to participate.

Reach out to James Venhaus with any questions.
