The Head of School – August 12, 2026
August 12, 2026
Flint Hill Community,
Welcome to the first newsletter of the 2026-27 academic year!
Every two weeks — with a few special editions along the way — this newsletter will be one of your primary resources for staying informed about upcoming events, important action items, and opportunities to engage across our community. Whether your family is brand new to Flint Hill or has been here for many years, my hope is that this newsletter, paired with open and ongoing dialogue with the School, helps you feel informed, connected, and supported throughout the year.
This year marks my fifth as Head of School at Flint Hill. I still remember the butterflies in my stomach the first time my wife and I dropped off our own two Huskies for their first day in the Lower School.
Like every family new to Flint Hill, ours arrived with plenty of hopes and questions: Will our kids love this place as much as we hope they will? What friendships will form? Will they be challenged, supported, and appreciated for who they are — and who they might become?
Four years later, I’m incredibly grateful for the ways Flint Hill has become home for our family. I also know much more about what to expect — and yet Flint Hill still finds ways to pleasantly surprise me.
That’s because no two school years are exactly alike. Our children grow and change. Friendships evolve. Teachers introduce new ideas. Programs develop. Each year becomes its own combination of people, experiences, challenges, accomplishments, and unexpected moments.
In just a few weeks, we will welcome 194 new-to-Flint Hill Huskies to campus, many arriving with those same first-day butterflies. Returning families may know exactly where to park and what Back-to-School Night looks like, while still wondering what this particular year will hold for their child.
Wherever you fall on that spectrum, I encourage you to lean in. Read this newsletter. Come to events. Cheer for our Huskies. Get to know your child’s teachers, advisors, and coaches. Ask questions when something is unclear, and share feedback when it may help us better understand your child or family’s experience.
Healthy school-family partnerships are built through good-faith communication, trust, curiosity, and a shared commitment to doing what is best for our students. We want families to know what to expect from Flint Hill while also having clear avenues to ask questions, seek understanding, and engage in thoughtful dialogue along the way.
For now, enjoy these waning weeks of summer — while also taking a little time to dig into the important information and action items throughout this newsletter so that we can all begin the year informed, ready, and excited for what’s ahead.
I can’t wait to see our Huskies back on campus.
Go Huskies!
