The Head of School – November 12, 2025
November 12, 2025
Flint Hill Community,
Last week, I had the privilege of meeting with a Flint Hill alumnus from the Class of 1972 whose professional journey led him from finance and banking to a profound calling in ministry. His path ultimately took him to serve as a Special Assistant to the Office of the Army Chief of Chaplains, where he worked at Arlington National Cemetery — walking alongside families in moments of grief and honoring the lives of those who served our country with courage and conviction.
As we spoke, he reflected on the reverence of that work and the deep roots of his calling. He credited many of his teachers at Flint Hill — among them Colonel Ferguson-Warren and Colonel Gaige, both beloved early faculty members and former military officers — for shaping his sense of purpose and service. Fittingly, Colonel Gaige now rests at Arlington himself, continuing to inspire from that hallowed ground.
This week, as we observe Veterans Day, we pause to honor those who have served in our nation’s armed forces and those whose lives have been intertwined with their service. Flint Hill’s history is rich with these connections — from our earliest faculty to current employees, spouses, and families who serve or have served. The John M. Thomas Endowment continues this legacy, supporting need-based financial aid for students from military and first responder families. Across our divisions this week, students and teachers took time to recognize members of our community with ties to military service, ensuring that gratitude and reflection remain part of our shared learning.
There’s a well-known adage among military families: when one serves, all serve. It reminds us that service is never solitary — it extends to families, friends, and communities who support and sustain those in uniform. To all in our Flint Hill community who have served, or who stand beside those who have, thank you. Your courage, sacrifice, and example enrich our community and remind us what it means to lead with purpose.
Go Huskies!

Also: This Saturday, we’ll come together for our annual Community Festival — an afternoon of connection, learning, and fun that celebrates the diversity and shared spirit of our Flint Hill family. Our strength lies in our inclusivity and our appreciation of one another’s unique experiences, which help our Huskies grow in understanding, empathy, and belonging. I hope to see you there!
