The Head of School – September 9, 2026

Flint Hill Community,

Before sharing a few reflections on these opening weeks of school, I want to recognize an important anniversary for our community and our country.

This Friday marks 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001. For many adults in our community, it remains one of those indelible “Where were you when...?” moments. Some within the Flint Hill community lost family members, friends, colleagues, or neighbors that day, at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania, or in the years of military service that followed. The anniversary can understandably bring a wide range of emotions and memories.

At Flint Hill, we will recognize the day thoughtfully and in developmentally and age-appropriate ways. Where September 11 is discussed in our classrooms, teachers will place it within factual and historical context. Our campus flags will fly at half-staff, and we will observe a moment of silence prior to Friday evening’s home football game. As always, if the anniversary raises questions or emotions for your child, our teachers, counselors, and division leadership are available as partners and resources.

One of the remarkable things about a school community is that we hold many things at once: remembrance and hope, reflection and celebration, an understanding of the past and tremendous optimism about the future entrusted to the young people around us.

And there has certainly been plenty of optimism around Flint Hill these opening weeks.

A huge Husky thank you to everyone for such a fantastic start to the school year. Across our classrooms, hallways, fields, courts, and performance spaces, students, faculty, and staff have jumped right in — bringing the energy, enthusiasm, and spirit that make Flint Hill such a special place.

A few actual quotes I’ve heard directly — or had relayed to me — already this year:

• “I don’t ever want to leave. I love it here.” — Kindergartener, Class of 2039
• “I belong here.” — New Middle School student, after Day 2
• “I was so impressed by the depth of content and thinking they’ll do this year.” — Junior parent at Upper School Back-to-School Night
• “We do the start of school well.” — Flint Hill administrator

I love each of these for different reasons. Together, they capture both the pride of a strong start and the sense of belonging and possibility we hope will carry throughout the 2026-27 school year.

Of course, a school year is a long journey. There will be great days, challenging ones, unexpected twists, and plenty of opportunities to grow. We are, after all, working with students from ages 4 to 18! What matters most is the trust, communication, and relationships that allow us to navigate all of it together.

My hope is that the connections already taking shape — with teachers, advisors, coaches, counselors, administrators, fellow parents, and friends — continue to deepen throughout the year. Let’s keep showing up for one another, learning more about each other, and carrying this positive Husky spirit forward.

It’s been a great start. Let’s keep it going.
