Happy New Year! I hope that all of you enjoyed a wonderful break with your families and are ready for a fantastic 2026! It was great to see everyone back in the building this week, as we focus on reconnecting as a middle school community and regaining academic momentum in the classrooms.
We have a number of events and opportunities for parents this month; please make sure to review the Announcements, Reminders, and Upcoming Events below.
Brian Lamont
Director of the Middle School
Your Feedback Requested: Athletics Survey
As part of our Strategic Vision, Flint Hill is partnering with Carney Sandoe Athletics to conduct a comprehensive review of our athletic systems, resourcing, and student development. We are committed to building intentionally for the future and believe that listening to the aspirations of our community is essential to this process. We invite all parents, students, and employees to share their feedback via this confidential survey by Friday, January 16. Your input will be benchmarked against peer schools nationwide to help us identify strengths and meaningful opportunities for growth as we continue to strengthen the Husky experience.
Parent Meetup: Move and Mingle — January 21
On January 21, 8:45-10:00 a.m., at Vienna Community Center, join Upper School Divisional Ambassadors Katie Ramsey P’28, ’30 and Fatima Latif P’28 for a fun Zumba class for all abilities. Katie will lead a 45-minute class that gets your heart pumping and ends with a Pilates-style stretch. Stay for refreshments and conversations after class. Registration is limited to 30 people. Sign up and contact Olivia Landrum ‘11 with any questions.
PES: Writing Across the Divisions — Thursday, January 22
Join our academic leaders from the English and Language Arts Departments on Thursday, January 22, 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Lower School, Room 201, as we explore the theme of Writing Across the Divisions, offering a deep dive into how we intentionally build strong literacy skills and a love for storytelling from Junior Kindergarten through 12th grade. Whether your student is just beginning to form letters or is preparing for college-level research, this discussion will provide valuable insight into the vertical alignment of our curriculum and the consistent growth of the Husky writing experience. We look forward to seeing you there for coffee and conversation.

Parents are invited to an informal conversation with Director of the Middle School Brian Lamont on Wednesday, January 28, 8:15-9:15 a.m. in the Peterson Middle School Commons. Come drink some coffee or tea after drop-off, connect with other parents, and bring your questions!
8th Grade Human Sexuality Programming: January 23-30
Lottie Walker, an AASECT-certified sexuality educator and former FH counselor, will teach this unit during science classes. The material will include a brief review of the physiological changes of puberty and the human reproductive system; an overview of sexually transmitted diseases; an in-depth discussion of consent and healthy communication; an examination of terminology used to differentiate sexuality from gender; and an introduction to the topic of abstinence and pregnancy prevention. There will also be an emphasis on exploring family and individual values and relating them to healthy interpersonal relationships and decision-making. For additional information on the topics covered, please refer to this unit overview. On Friday, January 30, 9:30-10:30 a.m., Lottie will host a virtual parent session to review the unit and discuss strategies for parents to engage in these conversations with their children.

Start the New Year with a Shift in the Igloo!
Looking for an easy way to get involved in the new year? There’s always an opportunity to sign up for a shift in the Igloo, and we need many volunteers to open each day. It’s a fun, social way to connect with other parents while supporting our community. Upper School students can volunteer for basketball games, too! Sign up to volunteer in the Igloo
Game Cancellations Due to Inclement Weather
With the winter season comes the possibility of snow and ice, which can lead to game cancellations. In the case of inclement weather, the Athletics Department will determine by 1:30 p.m. whether a home game/meet will be canceled. If there is an away game/meet, the decision to play lies with the opposing school. Once a home game/meet is canceled, Flint Hill coaches will notify parents and students. Husky Hub will also be updated and will serve as the primary source for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Click on the plus sign to add the event to your Google Calendar. Important note: changes made to the original calendar event won't populate on your Google calendar, so please be sure to look out for changes announced in the newsletter.
