The Head of School – August 26, 2026

Flint Hill Community,

Last week, we welcomed our new employees to campus for orientation, and this week, our full faculty and staff returned to prepare together for the 2026-27 academic year. We can’t wait to welcome our Huskies and families back to campus next week!

The start of every school year offers an opportunity to recenter on our goals — as students, families, educators, and a community. This week, I shared several schoolwide priorities guided by our Strategic Vision, with a focus on our academic program, professional excellence, and student success.

At the heart of that work is our newly updated Pathway of a Flint Hill Student.

Previously called our Portrait of a Student, the Pathway describes the qualities we want every Husky to develop throughout their Flint Hill experience: becoming an ethical citizen, inclusive leader, effective communicator, problem solver, and self-directed learner.

The word Pathway is intentional. These are not qualities we expect students to suddenly possess at graduation. They are skills, habits, and ways of thinking that develop over time — beginning in Junior Kindergarten and growing in increasingly sophisticated ways through Middle School, Upper School, and ultimately graduation.

These aspirations have long been part of the Flint Hill experience. Our work this year is to become even more intentional about them: examining how our curriculum, teaching, and assessment help students develop these qualities at every age and in every discipline. We want this growth to happen not simply as a fortunate result of a great education, but by design by an outstanding faculty and staff. I will keep the community apprised of our progress within this work throughout the year.

That is important “north star” work for our academic program. When we think about what we ultimately want for our students, it extends far beyond what they know. It includes who they become and what they are prepared to do with that knowledge.

I’m excited about the work ahead — and even more excited for our Huskies to begin their own 2026-27 pathways next week. There will be plenty of learning, growth, challenge, joy, and great memories along the way.
