From The Head of School – December 13, 2023

DECEMBER 13, 2023

Flint Hill Community,

I hope that you enjoyed the winter “dusting” on Monday, as the excitement of some snow truly put our students and teachers in the right winter mood this final week of classes before a well-earned break for the winter holidays. As we look ahead to the coming months, we recognize that there are numerous predictions of increased snow this season, so please see the important details regarding late-starts and snow days in each of the respective divisional sections of this week’s newsletter. Our goal, as always, is to prioritize safety with predictability for our community members, some of whom travel to us from over an hour away each morning.

These final days before break offer an opportune time to reflect and celebrate the accomplishments of the school year so far. Recent days and evenings have included outstanding student performances from our performing arts ensembles, heated competition in the athletic arena, and continued academic engagement across ages and disciplines. I’ve often described Flint Hill as a “process school,” committed to the growth of every child to be their very best, rather than cookie-cutter “products” off a conveyor belt at a traditional prep school. I encourage you to take a moment and consider how your child(ren) has grown this year, and what may help support that growth as we return to campus in January. With open arms and positive intent, we’re here to do our best – in partnership with families – to help every child flourish and lead true to our Core Values at Flint Hill.

If I don’t see you on campus this week, I wish you and your family only the best during the coming break. If you celebrate, have a wonderful holiday season, and I look forward to our return to campus in 2024 with renewed vigor and purpose.

Sincerely,

Patrick McHonett
Head of School
