From The Head of School – January 3, 2024

January 3, 2024

Flint Hill Community,

Happy New Year! I hope that your winter break was relaxing and rejuvenating. I was able to take some time with my family to travel, reflect, and recharge for the second half of the year. And, if your home is like mine, you were itching to get back to school life, its routines, and connections with Flint Hill friends.

While I know that we’re all excited to be back on campus with a strong drive for the remainder of this school year, I want to give a quick heads-up on a couple of items that will be headed to your inboxes very soon, as well as an invitation to engage with me, as Head of School.

Tomorrow afternoon, your family will receive a note from the Flint Hill Board of Trustees with the tuition information for the 2024-25 school year. Then, on Wednesday, January 31, parents of students returning next year will receive an email with the link for the 2024-25 enrollment contract, with a deadline to re-enroll by Thursday, February 8. At Flint Hill, we play the long game — with thoughtfulness, intentionality, and significant preparation; therefore, it’s important that families are attentive to the details and deadlines in these communications to avoid any hiccups along the way.

I’m also very aware of the significant investment for a Flint Hill education, and realize that you may have questions related to tuition, budget, or other high-level concerns of our independent school community. While I believe that we make every effort, every day to be worth this investment (and more), I also know that we’re better together as one community when we have the opportunity to engage directly, through thoughtful dialogue and learning, so that we can all pull the sled that makes Flint Hill a leader in the independent school community within the DC Metro area. Please feel free to join me and Associate Head of School for Finance & Operations, Anne Peterson, for my annual Head of School Budget Coffee on Monday, January 8, at 8:30 a.m. in the Upper School Multipurpose Room to engage and learn more.

Once again, on behalf of myself and the entire Flint Hill team, we appreciate your family and continued trust in Flint Hill for your children’s growth and education.

Sincerely,

Patrick McHonett
Head of School
