    Letter From the Division Director

    Hello Huskies,

The end of April and the month of May truly is a sprint to the end. Hang on, as it will be fast and furious!

May begins with Senior Day on Friday, May 1, at the Upper School. It will be an awesome day to celebrate the Class of 2026! While our seniors enjoy their morning festivities, students in grades 9-11 will follow a modified schedule, meeting with each of their classes for approximately 20 minutes with a quick break between periods 4 and 5. The afternoon will include an All-School Lunch, where the entire community can eat and celebrate together; Senior Speeches, in which members of the Class of 2026 share reflections on their time here; and Open Mic Sets, where seniors can take the Commons stage one last time to entertain the student body. Students were emailed earlier this week with the day's schedule details.

It continues with AP Exams during the first two weeks of May. Here’s the schedule for these two weeks. Students sitting for an exam can miss the half day of school immediately prior to their exam. For example, if you have a P.M. exam, you can miss the morning of, and if you have an A.M. exam, you can miss the afternoon prior to it (unless the afternoon prior is a Friday). All students enrolled in an AP course must sit for the AP exam. Also, the AP exam replaces the need to sit for a final exam. Therefore, students must give a good-faith effort on the AP exam. If a student is determined not to have done so, they will take an exam created by the teacher. The result of that exam will be factored into the course grade according to the Academic Handbook.

And although much further off (and technically running into June), the end-of-year exams will be here before we know it. Here is some useful information to help your child(ren) prepare for these assessments:

    • Exams are worth 20% of the students’ second-semester grade. The exam is based on material from the second semester but will often require skills and proficiencies developed in the first semester.
    • Thursday, May 28, is called Reading Day. It is a required school day for all Grade 9 students, but optional for Grade 10 and 11 students. The day is designed so that all classes meet, allowing students to meet with each teacher.
    • A week before Reading Day, we stop assigning new work and begin reviewing in class. This is done because studying the material in smaller chunks over time is better than cramming before the exam.
    • In case a student has a conflict or is sick, the Exam Makeup Day is Friday, June 5. Students are not permitted to take exams early.

As always, if there are any questions, please let me know.

    Regards,

    Chris Tennyson
    Director of the Upper School

    Announcements

Our 9th and 11th grade families didn’t just reach their Flint Hill Fund participation goals — they smashed them! For the second year in a row, our Class of 2027 parents exceeded their goal with 66% participation, and our Class of 2029 parents charged ahead to reach an incredible 70%.

To celebrate your support of our students and teachers, 9th Grade Dean Mr. Kane and Dean of Students Mr. Shepherd bravely took pies in the face during break today from 9th and 11th graders. Pics to come soon!

Thank you for your amazing support of the Flint Hill Fund!
