From The Head of School – January 31, 2024

January 31, 2024

Flint Hill Community,

Yesterday afternoon, I had the joy of gathering our entire Flint Hill student, faculty, and staff community for our annual Flint Hill Day assembly.

Flint Hill Day is a celebration of this community, the accomplishments in the school year (so far), and a special nod to the amazing Flint Hill employees who make all the difference in the lives of our Huskies.

Each year, we take this time together to celebrate employee milestones at the school — specifically those hitting the 20-year mark of service to our students and community. Yesterday, I was able to recognize 2nd Grade Teacher Emma Barnes’ service to Flint Hill by including some fun thoughts from her current students.

Next, we honored this year’s recipients of the Driving Spirit Award — the top recognition for any Flint Hill employee, as nominated by students, families, faculty, and staff. This year, I was proud to honor five individual recipients of the Driving Spirit Award:

  • Ann Bazzarone, Middle School Learning Specialist
  • Shane Brooks, Web & Media Specialist
  • Amy Clement, Middle and Upper School History and Social Sciences Department Chair and Upper School Teacher
  • Donna Holaday, Assistant to the Director and Assistant Director in the Lower School
  • Jeremiah Shepherd, Associate Director of College Counseling

For me, the highlight of revealing each recipient’s name was the joyous applause and cheering from the students and colleagues in the audience. The genuine love and appreciation for these folks, including the positive impact they have had on our students, were tremendous.

Once again, thank you to all who submitted nominations for the Driving Spirit Award this year, as well as your ongoing appreciation of the best faculty and staff that I’ve ever had the privilege of supporting.

Go Huskies!

Sincerely,

Patrick McHonett
Head of School
