Nice to meet you! We're Flint Hill School, a JK-12 co-ed, independent school in Oakton, VA.
Our Peterson Middle School is a unique place, housed in a new building created specifically for the unique developmental needs of 7th and 8th graders. They're not little kids anymore, but they're not quite ready for the independence of high school — and we know that.
We focus on creating safe opportunities for them to take meaningful risks through our intentional advisory program and a variety of academic and extracurricular options. We show them how taking these risks can be an important part of their development, self-confidence, self-awareness, and outcomes later in life.
Our teachers will get to know your child personally and developmentally. They're skilled at personalizing the learning journey, and they're constantly talking about their students (in the best way), sharing ways to meet preteens and teens where they are and helping them build from there.

Adults in your child’s life have an important role — providing the right amount of structure and guidance while leaving room for stumbles. This “coaching” role can be difficult for both educators and parents. But we can help! Flint Hill teachers and parents created this homework guide to keep students engaged and on task.
