FLINT HILL TRADITIONS

All-School Gathering
The fall All-School Gathering is one of two opportunities during the academic year for the entire School community to come together. This event marks the beginning of the year with the lighting of a lantern that remains lit in the Head of School’s office until the final senior completes their requirements for graduation.

Flint Hill Day
During the second All-School Gathering of the academic year, we convene as a community to celebrate Flint Hill School. We recognize faculty and staff’s years of service and announce the Driving Spirit Award recipients.

Homecoming Bonfire
Husky families gather at the Peterson Field on the Upper and Middle School campus the Friday night of Homecoming weekend to light the bonfire. We celebrate as a community with hot cocoa, pick-up touch football games, and music from our Upper School performing groups leading up to the lighting of the bonfire.
READ, READ, READ
The best preparation for the upcoming school year is to read. We recommend participating in a summer reading challenge, creating a family book club, or setting a goal for your student. Reading builds vocabulary, writing, comprehension, and stamina. Check out a few summer reading resources here or on the Resource Board in Husky Hub.
Learn more about our approach to reading in the Lower School in our Science of Reading blog post.
DEPTH VERSUS ACCELERATION: THE FLINT HILL APPROACH
In modern education, where the clamor for rapid progress often drowns out the subtleties of deeper learning, Flint Hill offers a refreshing departure from the status quo. Here, educational philosophy takes root not in the race for speed and acceleration but in foundational understanding. Drawing directly from neuroscience research, Flint Hill's approach emphasizes the importance of thorough comprehension over hurried advancement. It's a deliberate choice, one that prioritizes the long-term growth and holistic development of every student who walks through our doors. Read more.
SUMMER ON THE HILL
We offer engaging and educational summer experiences for our full community! Our younger students can attend day camp, multi-sport, and STEM experiences; our middle grades have the options of athletic and enrichment programs; and our Upper School students may take For-Credit and Academic Prep Courses. Register for Summer on the Hill today!
